What is Foam fire extinguishing System?

Foam fire extinguisher system is a foam fire suppression system that, when activated, releases a foam covering the surface of gasoline, oil, etc, separating flammable liquids from air and fire, thereby the fire is extinguished.

Foam is created by 3 components: water, concentrated foam, and air. Water is mixed with foam concentrate, forming a foam solution. Why is it necessary to install a foam fire suppression system?

Foam fire extinguishing system is widely applied in areas with high risk of fire and explosion such as petrol tanks, chemical warehouses, etc.

Instructions for installing a foam fire suppression system

– Step 1: Survey the common ground, measure and then design into a complete drawing, dissect up the exact and specific volume of equipment and materials, immediately after being approved, proceed with construction.

– Step 2: Based on the drawing, prepare to measure, mark and cut to be suitable for the installation of the fire fighting system.

– Step 3: Install the compound tank, underground pipes and upper pipes in accordance with the requirements of the drawing on location and must be fixed and fastened according to each structure of the floor.

– Step 4: Connect pipes, install pipes, Foam nozzles and accessories according to technical requirements.

– Step 5: Perform cleaning and cleaning of pipes, valves and fittings at the installation location.

– Step 6: Test pressure, pipe leakage.

– Step 7: Connect to complete the system.

Some types of Foam are used a lot 

+ Foam AFFF is a foam that will create a mist over the plane of hydrocarbon fuels.

+ Foam ARC (alcohol-resistant concentrate) is a foam that will create a sticky film on the plane of the insoluble fuel.

Fire fighting principle of foam fire extinguishing system

When the detector detects a fire and transmits the signal to the control center cabinet will quickly transmit the signal to the output devices (horns, bell, fire alarm lights). When the temperature in the fire area reaches about 60°C to 80°C, the Sprinkler head breaks, water sprays out system pressure drops, the  pump automatically activates to supply water to the compound tank.

When the water passes through the pipeline, the solenoid valve will open, a apart of the water will go into the Foam tank to create pressure with the Foam storage cabinet inside the tank and this pressure will push the foam out in the direction of the nozzle to Cover the fire area.

The main equipment of Foam fire extinguishing system

The main equipment of the foam fire extinguishing system includes:

1. Fire alarm push button

Fire alarm push button is connected to fire alarm and fire fighting system, used manually by human. When detecting a fire, the detector only needs to press the button, the signal will quickly transmit information to the central cabinet.

2. Fire detectors (smoke, heat)

Fire detector is a device sensitive to fire incidents, responsible for detecting fire and transmitting information to the central control cabinet.

3. Central control cabinet

The central control cabinet is capable of monitoring and controlling the equipment in the fire fighting system.

4. Horns, bells, fire lights

Horns, bells and fire alarm lights are arranged right in front of the door to the room to promptly notify people inside about the fire incident.

5. Foam nozzle

When a fire or explosion occurs, the foam nozzles will absorb the surrounding heat, when the temperature reaches the explosion temperature threshold, the mercury-containing particles will be broken, creating a way for the foam to spray and cover the fire.

6. Compound tank

Compound tank is a system consisting of a pressure tank inside a thick rubber bag to contain Foam, using water pressure to squeeze the rubber bag, pushing the foam out into the foam mixer.

Comes with the tank are valve accessories, rubber bag (pre-installed inside), mixer, chemical inlet and outlet valves, water discharge valve, vent valve.

7. Powder Mix Foam

Foam mixing powder has the effect of releasing a concentrated amount of foam powder into the water source at the design rate.

8. Pipes, Foam nozzles

The foam nozzle is attached directly to the foam nozzle. When there is a fire, the foam will be mixed and distributed through the duct, to the nozzle and through the nozzle to cover the fire area.
